Love food at York Festival of Food and Drink
After a successful 2009 promoting the love food hate waste campaign, the waste partnership are again attending the York Festival of Food and Drink on Parliament Street.
Cookery demonstrations using leftovers, hints and tips for keeping food fresher for longer (and free bag clips) menu suggestions for meals and portion sizes explained are just some of the activities that the partnership will be carrying out at this year’s festival.
Also attending will be the smoothie bicycle, with pedal power being used to produce some mouthwatering smoothies. If you have a great recipe why not supply the pedal power to make it, and then taste the results!
The pledge competition is still open for entries, so why not make a pledge to reduce your food waste and win one of these fantastic prizes.
‘Chocolate and Sugarworks’ day at the Nigel Brown Cookery Academy (worth £175)
Food and Beer Cookbook by Richard Fox and a case of Morrissey-Fox Blonde Ale
Yorkshire Tea Gift Pack from Taylors of Harrogate
1 x Hamper per month for 6 months from the Kirkgate Farmers Markets, Leeds
Organic Hampers from Wildstar Organics, South Yorkshire
If you’re unable to visit the food festival, why not make a pledge online.
Staff from the York and North Yorkshire waste partnership will be at the York Festival of Food and Drink on 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25 September from 9am until 5pm. More information on the festival can be found at www.yorkfoodfestival.com
Waste Partnership supporting Beningbrough’s Big Green Festival
Working in partnership with the National Trust, the York and North Yorkshire waste partnership will be encouraging residents to love food hate waste, and compost their peelings at Beningbrough’s Big Green Festival.
Staff and Rotters will be demonstrating how by composting or using a food waste digester, you can reduce your waste and produce nutrient free compost! A variety of composters and food waste digesters will be on display for residents to ‘test drive’ including a working wormery.
Using up leftovers and handy hints for reducing food waste will be provided by Chef Clover Hutson. Clover will also be judging our competition to find the most interesting smoothie recipe for using up leftovers. If you have a smoothie recipe, provide our smoothie bike with the pedal power and we’ll produce it for you. The winning recipe will receive a hand blender, perfect for producing smoothies.
The festival is taking place at Beningbrough Hall, near York on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September from 11am until 4pm. For more information visit www.biggreenfestival.org.uk
