Schools Competition
As part of Compost Awareness Week 2009 we are launching a competition for all primary schools across York and North Yorkshire. Currently many of us recycle our paper, cans, glass bottles and other materials and these are made into other useful products such as reusable bags, pens and pencils or even drinking glasses, but we need to find ways to produce less waste initially. This also links to the national recycle now week which takes place between the 22nd to the 26th June 2009 which has a “lets waste less” theme.
The schools competition has now closed. The winning schools were;
- Alne Primary School
- Bedale High School
- Escrick Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School
- Forest of Galtres Anglican/Methodist Primary School
- Great Smeaton Primary School
- Hutton Rudby Primary School
- Lakeside Primary School, Clifton Moor
- South Milford Community Primary School
Winning schools have been presented with their prize, and a member of staff will be visiting the school in September to teach pupils about how a wormery works, and what they need to be feeding their worms. The pupils that created the winning entry have also been presented with a worm world.
The winning entries will be displayed in County Hall, Northallerton, apart from Lakeside Primary School, York where the entry will be displayed in York Council Offices.
